As educators, we are not satisfied with simply teaching students to repeat facts back to us (parrots can do that). We want much more. We want our students to look at the world, weigh what they see, and arrive at the truth—rather than simply having it presented to them. In other words, we want them to think critically. But teaching critical thinking is not easy. For starters, there is not even strong consensus on what critical thinking is. Beyond that, there are questions about where it is appropriate, how to integrate it, how to advance it, and how to measure it. Infusing Critical Thinking into Your Courses is a Magna Online Course that surveys the scholarship on critical thinking and provides a clear path to integrate it into your teaching.
